"racing at the speed of light" Latest News (2006 archives): December 18th, 2006 Delivery Wagon Delivers the Goods Consistency and care (or maybe lucky tire choice) paid off last Saturday in Fowlerville, Michigan where the Team Illuminata Motorsport Outback wagon delivered a first ever class victory and second overall placing for driver Paul Eddleston. On a brilliant, sweeping but initially frozen course designed by Scott Harvey the Subaru scythed its way delicately through the numerous chicanes and tight boxes that characterized the otherwise dirt oval course. After the initial morning session Team Illuminata was leading the Rally Modified 4wd class by just 0.03 minutes or less than 2 seconds from first time rally-crosser Micah Jones in a WRX wagon. Tire selection for the morning's clean runs was Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires which seemed to be the perfect choice as the rally tire shod cars had problems hitting cones and missing gates. During the lunch break the temperature climbed above the freezing mark and the sandy, well drained surface began to soften and develop a gooey top surface. The decision was made to continue to run the Blizzaks rather than change to gravel tires mostly for expediency but it proved still to be a good choice as in the afternoon session, three clean but slightly less consistent runs helped to put some distance between the Outback and Micah whose was overtaken for second place by event Chair and course designer Scott Harvey in his Mitsubishi Talon rally car. Great times were put up by almost every car in the event but only one other driver managed to post faster scores than the Team Illuminata delivery wagon and that was Justin Kollien who posted the fastest time of the day on his way to winning Rally Prepared 4wd again in his Subaru STI. His final cumulative time for his six runs being 8 seconds quicker than the Outback. This event was one of the smoothest and best put together of the season and bodes well for the 2007 season opener on February 17th at Bob's Family Raceway presented by non other than Team Illuminata Motorsport. Mark your calendars and get those cars ready; it's less than eight weeks away. It's going to be a great season in 2007. Full results here Wagons Rule. August 28th, 2006 Canadian Victory for Team Illuminata Maybe it was the dreary British style weather or the Team Dynamics wheels or even the flamboyant driving style of Outback driver Paul Eddleston that contributed to the first in class (fsp) and third fastest time of the day in Western Ontario's Sports Car Clubs recent Autocross (slalom) event in Sarnia on August 27. Whatever it was it was a great event and not too far to go though a long way to come home for the team due to the super long lines at the border. The weather was drizzly for much of the day but the sun did manage to peak out in the afternoon session producing some faster times. Only a stock Honda Civic and Detroit Region's own Les Francisco in his B MOD F440 produced a quicker time on the sinuous, two lap course despite the drying conditions. August 12th, 2006 Team
Illuminata fastest IAt the recent Saginaw Valley Auto-x held at the Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan The Team Illuminata Motorsport Subaru Outback once again came out as the fastest Subaru at the event. However, on this occasion this unofficial accolade can only be claimed if one discounts the one cone driver Paul Eddleston clipped in the last gate on his last and fastest run of the day. These cones, if knocked over, add two seconds to the time so this error was a significant factor in the teams placing of seventh in class. Without the cone this would have been a commendable fourth in class behind such exotic machinery as Mitsubishi EVO's and a Ford Mustang. Overall, only 17 out of the 62 cars entered went round the course faster than the Outback grocery getter. The car is next appearing at the Detroit Region's rally-x at Bob's Family Raceway on August 19th. July 16th, 2006 Now fastest Subaru! IN the recent MSCC CHAMPIONSHIP AUTOCROSS at GREAT LAKES CROSSING (7/9/2006) Team Illuminata Motorsport driver Paul Eddleston finally pulled off the result of FASTEST SUBARU. He also posted the fastest 4wd time of the event. Unfortunately non of these accolades count for anything but are very interesting non the less; especially to anyone driving an STI instead of an Outback. In the official competition he was second in class being solidly beaten by Eric Storhok in his Alfa GTU by 2 seconds on the tight, short course. Still his time of 39.769 was good for 12th overall out of 70 competitors and was beaten only by such exotic equipment as Vipers, Alfa GTUs, Corvettes, BMWs, Mazda Protégés and a Miata. He was faster this event than 83% of the field and hopes next time to break into the top 10.
July 7th, 2006 Team Illuminata -2nd fastest Subaru With the car now running in the Street Modified class we still managed to win our class at the recent Detroit Region Spring Fling autocross in Ypsilanti. But more impressively driver, Paul Eddleston came out as the second fastest Subaru on the day beaten only by an STI by 0.7 sec. The only competition in SM was from a 99 Mustang 2 whole seconds back as the rest of the Street Modified Cars seem to be running in the street tire class. Full results here
